With her blond and bubbly good looks, Hayden Panettiere seems like a typical popular kid who wouldn’t have anything to do with geeks. When you look at the roles she’s taken, however, you can see that she has an appreciation for nerd culture and humor, especially in the video game realm. As the voice of Kairi in the Kingdom Hearts series, she gave voice to the innocent yearnings for a generation of gamers, who just wanted to find their closest friend and get her back from the darkness. Whatever goes on between Sora and Riku, Kairi is still the main love interest and driving force of the series. Besides her voice acting, Hayden has also been the cheerleader at the center of the complex storylines of Heroes. Growing darker and more mature as the conspiracy and involvement of her family and “family” is revealed, her indestructible character has loved boys and girls and been betrayed by most of them. Without resorting to being vindictive, the character has remained true to herself while still finding ways to expose the truth of the actions of others. And of course there is the occasional shower scene as fan service without upsetting the censors.
